Crochet Christmas Cards / Cardiau Nadolig Crosio

IMG_20181125_182750_683This year, I’ve decided to make some crochet Christmas cards for friends and family. I shared a photo of these on my Instagram account a couple of weeks ago, and quite frankly, I’m absolutely flabbergasted by how much interest they received. So, I decided to write a blog post about them and the patterns I used in case anyone fancies making some of their own.

To make the cards, you’ll need the following:

  • A pack of blank A5 cards and envelopes
  • Glue dots (I used the Bostik ones)
  • ‘Merry Christmas’ stamp (or other festive greeting of your choice). I bought my stamps from DoodleStamp on Etsy (mainly because they had a Welsh ‘Nadolig Llawen’ one available!)
  • Ink pad
  • Some cotton DK yarn in white, red and green (or any other colour you fancy!). I used Rico Creative Cotton
  • Crochet hooks (size dependent on pattern)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

After completing each motif, I used the glue dots to stick them on to the card, and then used the stamp and ink pad to print the greeting beneath.

Crochet Patterns

I used five different motifs for the cards: a snowflake, holly, mistletoe, gift, and candy cane. Pattern details for each are below:

Snowflake and Holly

The patterns for both the snowflake and the holly are by Lucy of Attic 24, and is available free on her blog:

Snowflake

Holly

Mistletoe

The mistletoe pattern is by Happy Berry Crochet. She has a video tutorial on YouTube showing how to make them, which you can find here.

Gift

The pattern for the gift is by Eleanora of Coastal Crochet, and was published in a Christmas supplement in issue 75 of Simply Crochet magazine. More details can be found on Eleanora’s blog, and you can purchase back issues of Simply Crochet here.

Candy Cane Pattern

20181125_111927The candy cane is my own pattern, as I was struggling to find a flat version if that makes sense. I’ve tried to write instructions below, but writing patterns is quite new to me, so please do let me know if anything is unclear or if you think there might be any errors!

NOTE: After each colour change, I cut the yarn and crochet over the end when completing the next row to save having to weave in the ends. It’s a bit fiddly, but leaves you with only two ends to weave once you’ve finished.

You will need:

  • 3.00mm crochet hook
  • Cotton yarn in red and white
  • Scissors
  • Needles

To start, ch4

Row 1

Start with red.

Make a dc in the 2nd chain from the hook, htr, tr. Ch2, and turn.

Row 2

Tr, htr, dc. Change to white yarn.

Rows 3 – 11

Repeat rows 1 and 2 above, changing colour after every two rows. When you finish row 11, you should be working with your white yarn and finishing on a tr.

Row 12

Ch1, and then make a dc in each stitch across. Change to red yarn.

Row 13

Make a dc in each stitch across. Ch1, and turn.

Row 14

Make a dc in each stitch across. Change to white yarn.

Rows 15 – 26

Repeat rows 13 and 14 above, changing colour after every two rows.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Eleni, penderfynais wneud cardiau Nadolig crosio ar gyfer teulu a ffrindiau. Rhannais lun o’r rhain ar fy nghyfrif Instagram yn ddiweddar, a dwi ‘di fy llorio gan faint o ddiddordeb gawson nhw. Felly, penderfynais ysgrifennu darn amdanyn nhw a’r patrymau wnes i ddefnyddio rhag ofn bod unrhyw un yn ffansi gwneud rhai eu hunain.

I wneud y cardiau, byddwch angen:

  • Pecyn o gardiau gwag A5 ac amlenni
  • Dotiau gliw (fe wnes i ddefnyddio’r rhai Bostick)
  • Stamp ‘Nadolig Llawen’ (neu gyfarch arall o’ch dewis eich hun). Fe wnes i brynu fy stamp gan DoodleStamp ar Etsy (yn bennaf oherwydd bod ganddyn nhw un ‘Nadolig Llawen’ ar gael yn barod!)
  • Pad inc
  • Gwlân cotwm DK mewn gwyn, coch a gwyrdd (neu unrhyw liw arall sy’n cymryd eich brwd!). Fe wnes i ddefnyddio Rico Creative Cotton.
  • Bachyn crosio (y maint yn ddibynnol ar y patrwm)
  • Nodwydd wlân
  • Siswrn

Ar ôl gorffen pob motiff, fe wnes i ddefnyddio’r dotiau gliw i lynnu nhw ar y cerdyn, ac yna defnyddio’r stamp a’r pad inc i argraffu’r cyfarchion oddi dano.

Patrymau Crosio

Fe wnes i ddefnyddio pum gwahanol fotiff ar gyfer y cardiau: pluen eira, celyn, uchelwydd, anrheg, a chansen siwgr. Mae manylion y patrymau ar gyfer pob un isod:

Patrwm Cansen Siwgr

Mae’r patrwm cansen siwgr yn un o fy rhai i, gan fy mod i’n cael trafferth dod o hyd i fersiwn fflat. Dwi ‘di trio rhoi cyfarwyddiadau isod, ond mae ysgrifennu patrymau yn rhywbeth newydd i mi, felly plis gadewch i mi wybod os oes yna rywbeth sydd ddim yn gwneud synnwyr neu ‘da chi’n meddwl bod yna unrhyw gamgymeriadau!

NODYN: Ar ôl pob newid lliw, ro’n i’n torri’r gwlan ac yn crosio dros y pen wrth gwblhau’r rhes nesa’, er mwyn lleihau’r nifer o bennau sydd angen eu gwnïo ar y diwedd. Mae hyn mymryn yn drafferthus, ond yn eich gadael gydag ond dau ben i’w gwnïo ar ôl i chi orffen.

Byddwch angen:
